Transmuting Anger

Genevieve Godwin

You know that feeling when you are pissed off about everything?

That was me a few days ago.

I was doing dishes and I felt angry. I was trying to focus on the dishes but the fire in my blood was too hot and I knew I had to do something to diffuse this anger before it started to wreak havoc on my body.

I got in my car and went to the nearest mountain. I was parked in the parking lot and there was a car next to me but it didnt look like anyone was in there.

Seeing that the coast was clear and still sitting in my car I said, “ Thank you anger for coming up you are loved and I give you permission to be expressed.”

After that I let it go, full-on screaming, cussing and punching a pillow. I did this until I felt fully emptied and better. My skin was no longer crawling and my nervous system was calm.

Once the fire was discharged from my body I was able to analyze why I was so angry and if there were any boundaries I needed to place.

And there was! I was also angry at myself for not placing the boundary down sooner.

The point is that sometimes you need to express the emotion first and then process it later. It's hard to think clearly when your nervous system is all over the place.

It's okay to be angry, sad, fearful, or whatever “icky” emotion you have, you are not less than because you experience these emotions. You are human, this is human. It is all about how you dance with them and if you take the time to interpret their messages.
