The Real "S" Word

Genevieve Godwin

How often do you say you “should” do something? “I should take that class”, “I should see my family”, “I should meditate for longer” and the list goes on and on.

The word should implies you are not doing a good job right now. The word should hold us in shame and resistance. It keeps us away from fully loving ourselves where we are right now.

In order to gain more self-love, it is best to watch the way you speak. Words hold power in the quantum field and you are casting a spell when you speak (that is why they call it spelling). Even if you would like to change things in your life and do something new. Say things like, “I’d like to get more sleep”, “It would be wonderful if I meditated for a whole hour”, or “I’d love to spend more time with my family”.

I recommend becoming aware of how often you say “should”, and do your best to change the sentence. It takes some redirecting. Even I still say it. Luckily my boyfriend catches me and says, “No shoulds”.
